Good Morning Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
We’ve learned that every word we speak has a value – good or bad, death or life, blessing or cursing. Satan has worked extremely hard to get mankind to believe words have no real value, or they are cheap. We even start to learn this as children on the playground with the saying, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This is a saying straight from the pit of hell. Words are powerful, very powerful. God created everything with His Word. Likewise, Satan and Adam destroyed things with their words.
John 1:1-3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The Same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.
As we can see in John 1:1-3, God is The Word, and all things were made by The Word. God tells us that EVERY WORD He has spoken is established forever and will never change.
Psalm 89:34
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips.
Psalm 119:89
For ever, O LORD, Thy word is settled in heaven.
God further tells us that we can either bless ourselves and our family or curse ourselves and our family with our words.
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
David even asked the Lord to help him keep his tongue under control so he wouldn’t speak wrong words. Notice in Psalm 39:1 David says, “I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.” “The wicked before me” is referring to Satan and his evil spirits. Remember, the angels in Psalm 103:20 “hearken unto the voice of His Word” and act upon God’s Word declared from our mouths. Satan and his evil spirits do the same thing when we speak words that don’t line up with God’s Word. They act on these evil, wrong words.
Psalm 141:3
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
Psalm 39:1
(To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.) I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
Now, when I teach this, you can imagine I get eye rolls, folded arms, anger, or blank stares from a lot of the people hearing this for the first time. People just can’t believe they can curse themselves or their family with the words they speak. Likewise, they struggle to believe they can bless themselves or their family with their words. This shows me every time just how much damage both Satan and religion have done to the Body of Christ. Because of deception and ignorance, many Believers are in bondage to the spirit of fear (Romans 8:15; II Timothy 1:7). Even God tells us in Hosea 4:6 what can happen when we don’t have knowledge and understand.
Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to Me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Now, when we speak words over and over, where does the result of this speaking reside? Yes, in our hearts. We tell ourselves something over and over until it becomes truth to us. And this truth is either The Truth or it is the lie. When we encounter “the mountains” of Mark 11:23 in our lives, whatever is resident in our hearts will be our reaction. We will either bless ourselves or curse ourselves with the words of our reaction to the mountain.
This is what Proverbs 10:15 says to us. This verse is terribly misunderstood in religious circles. What God speaks through David is “your attitude affects your altitude.” A rich man never worries or thinks about poverty. He is only thinking of increase, of more riches, of having his heart’s desires. His image is one of wealth and riches. A poor man on the other hand is destroyed by their thinking. Why? Because all he is focused on is his poverty. His utter lack creates a limiting vision in his heart translating to a poverty image. He can’t see himself rich. The poor man can only see day-to-day and just tries to meet his need every day. This thinking leads to the poor man’s destruction.
Proverbs 10:15
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
How does this affect us as Believers? Greatly! You can’t expect to win if you speak losing. On the other hand, you can’t expect to lose if you speak winning. The words we speak over and over create the image in our hearts. It is either an image of faith or an image of fear. There is no third option or other image. It’s faith or fear. You have to see yourself healed by the Word of God, you have to see yourself blessed financially and materially by the Word of God, you have to see yourself delivered and protected by the Word of God, you have to see yourself blessing others by the Word of God, etc. When you speak or decree God’s Word over and over, faith builds as Romans 10:17 teaches us. Faith creates the image of success in our hearts. This is clearly told to us in Joshua 1:8, the Spiritual Law of Confession.
Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
You can only be prosperous and have good success if the Word of God has created an image of prosperity and success in your heart. And the Word of God can only create this image if you meditate or speak the Word over and over. God’s Word IS POWERFUL!
In closing, we need to mind our words and remember ALL words have value – good or bad, blessing or cursing, life or death. Please don’t take the flippant attitude towards what we speak. Even Jesus, God in the flesh, warns us about our words and their reward or consequences in Matthew 12:36-37.
Matthew 12:36-37
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Jesus makes it clear that every “idle word,” or words that don’t line up with God’s Word, that we speak we’ll have to deal with it when it comes back to us (the day of judgment or trial). Words are like a boomerang. They will come back to you with a blessing or a curse – depending on what you spoke. Jesus goes on to say in verse 37 that you will either be justified (receive the Blessing of God) or be condemned (receive the curse) for the words you’ve spoken.
May you have a very blessed day and week in Christ. May your words only be the Word of The Almighty God, your Father, about you and your family. Dare to believe and try it. What do you have to lose?
