Good Morning Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Can a Believer command God? When I ask this in group teachings, I get puzzled expressions, or a shaking of the head emphasizing the answer, “No,” or just a blank stare of silence. Religion has taught us God is sovereign and can do anything He pleases, when He pleases, and to whom He pleases. Well, let me burst the bubble of religion. No, God cannot do anything He pleases, when He pleases, or to whom He pleases. God answers to no being or no thing. This is where He is sovereign. God does answer to His spoken Word. God’s Word limits what God can do. Malachi 3:6 makes this plain. If it hadn’t been for God’s Word, the sons of Jacob would have been consumed.
Psalm 138:2
I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy Name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy Truth: for Thou hast magnified Thy Word above all Thy Name.
As The Holy Spirit has spoken, The Word of God is above His Name. God answers to His Word. He cannot break His Word. If God breaks His Word, He’s a liar and He is unjust. But, we don’t have to worry about his with God because as Titus 1:2 tells us, “…God cannot lie.”
Psalm 89:34
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips.
Once God has spoken, The Word will never be altered or broken. This is why God is a “just” God. Everyone is treated the same. The same Word brings the same results to all that call upon The Name of Jesus Christ. So, back to the original question. Can a Believer command God? Let’s see what God’s Word has to say.
Isaiah 45:11
Thus saith the LORD, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons, and concerning the work of My hands command ye Me.
In Isaiah 45:11, we are instructed by The Holy Spirit to “ask God about things to come” and to “use God’s Word to command Him concerning the work of His hands,” which was completed 6000 years ago. This is further emphasized by God in Isaiah 43:26.
Isaiah 43:26
Put Me [God] in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.
We are instructed by The Holy Spirit to “put God in remembrance so He can declare with us.” Do you really think God forgot His Word and needs us to remind Him of what He said? Of course not. Why is God telling us to remind Him? He wants us to decree His Word in faith. God wants to be our second, stand in agreement with us concerning His Word [“let us plead together”]. This is HOW God’s children are to get results in this earth according to Job 22:28.
Job 22:28
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
We must decree God’s Word [put Me in remembrance] in faith, and this faithful decree shall be established – it will come to pass. If you look in the Hebrew, “the light” referenced in the second part of the verse is the “light of material prosperity.” Oh, I know. This drives religion crazy. And I personally love to do this. Sadly, denominational doctrine, made by man, triumphs over The Truth in many pulpits. Galatians 1:8-9 warns teachers, preachers, evangelists, missionaries, etc., to be CAREFUL concerning the handling of God’s Word. There is a price to be paid for wrong handling. It’s this serious. God doesn’t play games concerning His Word.
Psalm 103:20
Bless the LORD, ye His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His Word.
According to Psalm 103:20, God’s angels only respond to “The Voice of His Word.” “His Word” is God’s Word. God created the angels to be “ministering spirits” according to Hebrews 1:14. They are ministering spirits to those that accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. “Ministering” means they are to serve us, the Saved. When do they serve us? When we decree God’s Word in faith. How do they serve us? By carrying out decrees of God’s Word spoken in faith.
Notice the angels only “hearken unto The Voice of His Word.” This verse teaches us God’s Word has a Voice of Its Own. But The Voice doesn’t speak until WE decree God’s Word in faith. Once we decree The Word, the angels hear The Voice of God speaking The Word and act (hearken), bringing it to pass.
When we, as Believers, decree [means to give an order] God’s Word in faith over our lives, God sees to it that His Word is carried out by the ministering spirits on our behalf. Isn’t this amazing. When God tells us in Isaiah 45:11 that we can “ask Him” or “we can command Him,” it is only true where it concerns The Word of God. If what you ask or command is not in line with God’s Word, and is not spoken in faith, absolutely nothing is going to happen. A big fat zero. The angels are tone deaf. They ONLY respond to the tone of God’s Word spoken in faith. This is why so much emphasis is made by God with respect to US studying His Word. Ignorance is not bliss. That’s a big fat lie from Satan. Ignorance is death.
Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to Me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Hosea 4:6 makes it perfectly clear what the result will be of a Believer not studying God’s Word. We open ourselves up to be taken on every front by Satan and for destruction to enter. I’ve personally had conversations with MANY Believers asking for counsel on various things. Not all, but the bulk of them don’t know God’s Word the way they should. When you try to share what God’s Word actually says regarding their situation, they continue to talk past it. They want me to say what they want to hear. And it is not going to happen. God is serious about His Word. He is not going to change it for any one of us or for any situation.
Isaiah 55:8-9
8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
In Isaiah 55:8-9, God is very simply telling us He is not stooping to our level. He is telling us we must come to His level. How do we know His ways and His thoughts? Yes, through STUDYING His Word. If you really want your life to change to resemble that of Jesus Christ and you want your outcomes in life to resemble those of Jesus as He walked this earth, then YOU will have to study God’s Word.
In closing, through studying God’s Word, you will learn that, yes, God is sovereign in that He answers to no one or no thing, but He DOES answer to His Word. You will also learn that God has given us the power, through His anointing by Jesus Christ, to do EXACTLY what Jesus did while on this earth and get EXACTLY the same results as Jesus did on a consistent basis. I know, the religious are absolutely blowing their minds right now. “God is sovereign, Jesus is sovereign. We can’t do what God or Jesus does? We can’t command Them. We can’t put ourselves on Their level! That’s blasphemy!” No, blasphemy is DENYING The Holy Spirit, and denying the power we’ve been given by our Precious Father through Jesus Christ. Blasphemy is denying The Inerrant Word of God, The Truth. As Believers, we will stand before Jesus Christ at the Bema Seat to be judged for our works with the gifts He gave us. We will be judged for our faithfulness (read the Parable of The Talents). Studying God’s Word is part of “the faithfulness.”
II Corinthians 2:14
Now thanks be unto God, Which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place.
Notice in II Corinthians 2:14, that God ALWAYS causes us to triumph in His Word, and when we do, we become that sweet smell, that sweet taste [savour] of His Word everywhere we go. What is your savour like today? It’s directly proportional to the power of His Word in you.
Much love in Christ,
Larry
