Good Morning Brothers,
Solomon, through the Holy Spirit, gives us wise Word in Proverbs. One of note is Proverbs 13:4:
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
So, what is Solomon expounding upon? We know the soul is our mind and heart; separate from our flesh and Christ’s Spirit in us. Who is the “sluggard” and the “diligent” Solomon speaks of in this verse? The “sluggard” is the Believer that doesn’t “study” God’s Word (II Timothy 2:15). The “diligent” is the Believer that studies God’s Word to show himself approved unto God, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
Now, both the “sluggard” and the “diligent” Believers have needs and wants. But God’s Word makes it very clear that only the Believer who studies God’s Word will receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation through the knowledge of Him (Ephesians 1:17) and shall be made fat. This means the diligent Believer will believe God’s Word and believe that he receives that which he desires and prays for according to Mark 11:24. And the diligent Believer will completely understand who he is in Christ, the power and authority he possesses, the spiritual laws of God, and how to pray/decree and receive his needs and wants. And, the diligent Believer prospers and is in health (III John 2).
This is also a picture of the Children of Israel which didn’t believe God’s Word to go forward and take the Promised Land which God had already promised them. If they had studied, meditated, and believed God’s Word, they all would have entered the Promised Land and been made fat. Instead, they lacked and they desired to no avail. They fell way short of God’s best for them. They had to live and die like the world.
This is also related to us in Psalms 82:6-7:
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the Most High. But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
God, the sovereign and independent, created us, gods, in His image and likeness. As gods, we are not sovereign because we are dependent on Him. However, we have everything He has because we are made in His image and likeness. If we don’t “study” God’s Word, you will not understand you are a god, and understand the power and authority you have. The Holy Spirit tells us through David if we don’t really know God’s Word, we will live a life like, and die like, natural men – not live a life like God intended for the spiritual man to live – IN VICTORY, IN EVERYTHING.
By the way, if it sounds offensive that we are “gods,” you need to see what Jesus, Himself, said in John 10:34:
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
In Christ’s love,
Larry
