Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ Jesus,
Last week’s message disclosed how a Believer that tithes can reap from the sowing of offerings. Jesus, The Head of The Church, disclosed to us in Mark 4:26-29 that a Believer must personally perform the acts of sowing and reaping. The growing, development, and multiplication of the seed sown is up to God. There are wonderful Believers, even pastors, teachers, missionaries, and evangelists that have willingly sown much seed into The Kingdom of God through the years but have received little-to-nothing in harvests. We cannot violate God’s Word. God tells us in Psalm 89:34 that “He will not break His covenant nor alter the thing that has gone out of His lips.” If God has told us how to reap, to bring in our harvests, then we must follow what He has said or else there will be little-to-no harvests. God cannot violate His Word for anyone.
Before we continue with the examination of the sowing of seeds and the reaping of harvests, it would be good for us to understand the “mammon.” Just over two weeks ago, when Jesus woke me up at 3:45AM, and gave me revelation concerning the Church, He said, “the Church, the Body of Christ in the earth, is riddled with the spirit of mammon.” Now, this is not true of all churches. It is true of the great majority of churches. It is not true of all Believers, but it is true of many Believers. This is not a condemnation of Believers by Jesus. Jesus said, “many Believers think the church, the pastor, is trying to get something from them when the pastor speaks about tithes and offerings. Quite the opposite. I’m trying to get a blessing to them.”
Jesus spoke strongly about the spirit of mammon. He gave us a stern warning. Let’s look at Matthew 6:24.
Matthew 6:24
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Now, most of us were taught that mammon is money; that Jesus said, “you cannot serve God and money.” This is not what Jesus was saying. Jesus is addressing the spirit of mammon. Mammon is a powerful, demonic spirit, a principality, that manifested in Chaldea (Babylonia) and was worshipped as a diety or spirit associated with wealth, riches, and materialism. Jesus, in Matthew 6:24 and Luke 16:13, speaks of mammon being a rival master to God. In Ephesians 6:12, The Holy Spirit, through Paul, speaks to the fact that we, as Believers, “wrestle not with flesh and blood but with spiritual entities.”
Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12 presents four distinct ranks in the hierarchy of demonic or satanic forces:
1. Principalities – These are the highest-ranking demonic entities, often seen as territorial spirits or those with authority over nations or regions. They are often interpreted as the chief rulers or commanders in satan’s kingdom, overseeing large regions or domains and influencing major cultural, political, and spiritual movements.
2. Powers – These spirits are subordinate to principalities and influence systems, governments, or ideologies.
3. Rulers of the darkness of this world – These spirits operate within worldly systems, promoting deception, sin, and rebellion against God.
4. Spiritual wickedness in high places – These are the most vile and corrupt spirits, often associated with occult practices, false religion, and perversion; operating in the heavenly realms or spiritual dimensions.
Mammon, as a principality demonic spirit, has subservient demonic spirits that report to it. These are:
1. Spirit of Poverty (Proverbs 6:11; Proverbs 10:15)
• Promotes scarcity mindset
• Causes people to reject prosperity as ungodly
• Keeps believers from sowing or expecting harvest
2. Spirit of Greed (Luke 12:15; I Timothy 6:10)
• Drives compulsive accumulation
• Never satisfied, always wants more
• Opposes generosity and stewardship
3. Spirit of Fear (II Timothy 1:7; Matthew 25:25)
• Fear of financial loss or lack
• Prevents faith-based giving
• Paralyzes decision-making in finances
4. Spirit of Pride (Proverbs 16:18; James 4:6)
• Boasts in wealth and possessions
• Seeks status through material things
• Rejects dependence on God
5. Spirit of Control (Micah 2:1-2; Acts 5:1-10)
• Uses money to manipulate others
• Seeks power through financial leverage
• Opposes freedom and covenant relationships
6. Spirit of Deception (II Corinthians 11:3; I Timothy 4:1)
• Twists Scripture to justify financial compromise
• Promotes false doctrines about wealth
• Hides the truth about covenant prosperity
7. Spirit of Covetousness (Exodus 20:17; Colossians 3:5)
• Intense desire to possess what belongs to another
• Greedy longing for material things
• Blinds people to contentment and gratitude
8. Spirit of Stinginess (Proverbs 11:24; Malachi 3:8-10)
• Promotes reluctance to give or share
• Creates desire of hoarding resources
• Keeps one in fear of lack and distrust in God’s provision
9. Spirit of Anxiety (Matthew 6:25-34; Philippians 4:6)
• Promotes worry over provision
• Compromise of values for financial gain
• Causes people to rely on themselves and the world
10. Spirit of Idolatry (Colossians 3:5; Ezekiel 14:3)
• Elevates money, possessions, or status above God
• Causes worship or excessive devotion to other than God
• Promotes exalting of personal success and achievement
If we contrast The Kingdom of God with the kingdom of darkness, it would be as follows. God’s Kingdom is based on seedtime and harvest, stewardship, generosity, and covenant increase. satan’s kingdom is based on hoarding, fear, manipulation, debt, and self-glorification. God’s will for Believers is found in I Peter 5:6-7.
I Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.
When The Holy Spirit, through Peter, says, “humble yourselves,” He is speaking of verse 7. We humble ourselves before God by “casting all our care upon Him.” This means we put complete trust in The Word and love of God for everything in our life. Another way to say it is we completely surrender ourselves to The Word of God, and we walk in complete faith that what God’s Word promises will come to pass in our life. When we do this, what does God promise to do? Yes, “exalt us in due time.” “Exalt” means, “to promote” and “in due time” means, “at the appropriate time” or “in God’s perfect timing.” Completely opposite of satan’s kingdom of darkness.
As Believers, we need to break free from the spirit of mammon. How do we do this? What follows are the keys to freedom from this heinous and destructive (steal, kill, and destroy) spirit:
- Tithing and Giving – Malachi 3:7-11. Aligns a Believer with God’s Kingdom.
- Renewing Your Mind – Romans 12:2. Reject worldly thinking.
- Speaking Covenant Truth – Job 22:28. Declare God’s promises.
- Trusting God as Your Source – Philippians 4:19. Not your job, bank, or investments.
There is a significant Spiritual Truth about the tithe. Bringing to God what is His (notice I didn’t say “giving to God.” You can’t give what is not yours), the 10 percent, removes the spirit of mammon from the other 90 percent. As God says in Malachi 3:10-11, if you tithe, God is now legally authorized to rebuke the devourer on your behalf. The word “rebuke” means, “Stop! That’s enough!” God is legally able to stop satan from devouring the 90 percent. No tithe, no divine, supernatural protection of the 90 percent. It’s that simple – black and white. If you don’t tithe, God will not recognize and will not honor any of your offerings (giving). You may as well drive down the road and throw the money out the window of the car.
Pray the following prayer with a completely yielded heart to God as commanded in I Peter 5:6-7.
“Father, I renounce the spirit of mammon and every subordinate spirit under its rule. I break the chains and the dominion of this spirit in my life. I choose to serve You alone. I break agreement with fear, greed, pride, and deception. I receive Your covenant provision and walk in Kingdom stewardship. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
I pray with all my heart you will do this in complete trust and faith in God’s promises to watch over you, protect you, deliver you, heal you and make you whole, and prosper you. God said in Joshua 1:5, “I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
In Christ Jesus,
Larry
