Good Afternoon Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Since we are coming into the Christmas Season when the world celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ (this is not when He was actually born, but it is the time the world celebrates Jesus’ birth), I want share something very interesting about a particular character we read about in the Scriptures associated with Jesus’ birth and his very early infancy. This character is King Herod. I won’t take us through the whole narrative about Jesus’s birth, early infancy, and King Herod. However, we specifically remember King Herod hearing from the Magi (not three, but many) about the birth of this new Jewish King and Messiah. Herod sought to kill Jesus (satan trying to exterminate The Messiah) and had all the male firstborn infants two years and younger in Bethlehem slaughtered. Did you know Herod seeking to kill Jesus actually began ages before with Herod’s and Jesus’ earthly lineage? Let’s see how this unfolds.
Isaac, son of Abraham, had two sons, Esau and Jacob. When Isaac blesses Jacob, he tells Jacob he would have dominion over his brothers, and men would bow down before him. Jacob blesses Esau and tells him he would live by the sword and under the dominion of his brother Jacob. We’re all aware of Esau having sold his birthright, as the firstborn son, to Jacob for a bowl of red pottage. Jacob and his mother Rebecca schemed to gain the firstborn son blessing of Isaac for Jacob. And Isaac blessed Jacob with the firstborn son’s blessing. When Esau learned this and heard Isaac’s blessing over himself, Esau was enraged to the point of wanting to kill Jacob.
Jacob’s descendants are the Jewish people. Esau’s descendants are the Edomites which later became the Idumeans in the days of the Roman Empire. Jacob’s descendants ruled over Esau’s descendants until an Idumean became King of Israel. This Idumean, who was he? Yes, King Herod, a descendant of Esau’s. So, the struggle between Esau and Jacob continued many ages later in their bloodlines with Esau wanting to kill Jacob. In this case, it is King Herod wanting to kill Jesus, The Messiah. However, no matter how hard satan tried, he could not prevent Jacob’s bloodline, The Messiah, from rightly obtaining The Kingship of Israel as well as of all creation. Now, Jacob’s bloodline rightly rules over Esau’s bloodline.
When we, as Believers, accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and King, we became part of Jacob’s lineage, the lineage with The Blessing. As Isaac pronounced in his blessing of Jacob, we, the lineage of Jacob, through Jesus Christ, have dominion over the earth, and all creation is subject to our decrees of God’s Word, spoken in faith. This is clearly stated in Psalm 82:6 and John 10:34.
Psalm 82:6
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of The Most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
John 10:34
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
The Word, in both the Book of Psalms and the Book of John, Jesus Christ, makes it clear ,then and now, we are gods, children of The Most High. We are NOT God, but we are gods, children of The Most High. Remember in Philippians 2:6 The Holy Spirit, through Paul, tells us Jesus thought it not robbery to be equal with God? Why did Jesus say this? Not to say that we are God, but Jesus was instructing us we are to be “like” God. We are to think, speak, and act as Jesus did because Jesus said He learned it from His Father.
Philippians 2:6
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Let’s take our rightful place as children and heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. Let’s learn to authoritatively use The Word of God to decree, in faith, the promises of God over our lives and the lives of our families. While we are NOT God, we are gods of this earth, representing our Father, The Most High God. We have the power in us, Jesus’ faith, to make the natural world bend to God’s will.
Blessings in Christ,
Larry
