Never Run At Your Giant With Your Mouth Shut

Good Morning Mighty Warriors of The Lord of Host and Jesus The King,

When David, as a young shepherd boy, fought the Philistine giant Goliath, standing at 9 feet 9 inches tall, he notably spoke prophetic words which became truth very shortly.

I Samuel 17:45-47

45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the Name of the LORD of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, Whom thou hast defied.

46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and He will give you into our hands.

The above verses were spoken by David as he stood facing Goliath just before David engaged to fight him.  What do we notice from these power packed verses?  David addressed the mountain (Mark 11:23) by speaking to it.  Remember Jesus told us in Mark to “speak to the mountain.”  David declared in verse 45 that Goliath was coming against David with the wisdom and strength of the world, but David was coming against Goliath in the Name of the Lord of Hosts – Whom Goliath had defied.  In other words, David was coming against Goliath in the Spiritual realm while Goliath, who represents the world, can only fight from the inferior and much less powerful physical realm.

David then makes a prophetic declaration, “This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand….”  David didn’t say, “I hope” or “I think” or “maybe.”  David decreed, “This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand….”  God teaches us in Job 22:28 that “we are to decree a thing and it shall be established unto us.  And the light [of prosperity] shall shine upon our ways.”  And again in Romans 4:17 where we’re taught to “call things that be not as though they were.”  David had absolutely no doubt God would deliver Goliath into his hands.  Yes, David HAD NO DOUBT.  Larry, how do you know this for sure?  Look at I Samuel 17:26.

I Samuel 17:26

And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the Living God?

The certainty with which David had no doubt God would deliver Goliath into his hands is based on the bolded words above in I Samuel 17:26.  Specifically, “uncircumcised.”  In Genesis 17, Abraham, his family, and all generations to come under the Old Covenant were circumcised as part of the blood covenant between God and Abraham.  Anyone uncircumcised fell outside this covenant.

Genesis 17:8

And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

Part of the blood covenant, which if broken, meant death to the party that broke the covenant, was the land of Canaan belonged to the Children of Israel for an everlasting possession, and The God of Israel would be their God.  David knew this to be true.  How?  David, as a shepherd boy, meditated upon the Word of God (the Torah at the time) in his time in the fields. The book of Psalms is a collection of some of his meditations while in the fields.  The meditation built David’s faith (Romans 10:17) to the point he barehandedly killed a bear and a lion that attempted to kill sheep of his flock.  David understood through faith and the Word and promises of God, Goliath could not stand against him.  We see a concrete example of this in the Scriptures about David and Goliath.

I Samuel 17:48

And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

I love this verse.  Do you think David would have “run” toward Goliath if he wasn’t absolutely convinced, in faith, about the covenant Word of Almighty God?  Of course not.  He would have cautiously and slowly made his way toward Goliath, anticipating Goliath’s move, and reacting to it.  David remembered from The Torah, the book of Deuteronomy, this verse.

Deuteronomy 3:22

Ye shall not fear them: for The LORD your God He shall fight for you.

David knew his decreed words based upon the covenant promise of God would give him victory over Goliath.  In faith, David attacked knowing without any doubt the outcome.  And it came to pass just as David decreed.

So, what’s our excuse?  We have a better covenant, the New Covenant between God and Jesus Christ, than David had in the Old Covenant.  Yet, as soon as we experience headwinds, storm clouds, storms, persecutions, afflictions, etc., we fall back into fear, doubt, and unbelief.  What was David’s secret to success?  Studying and meditating the Word of God until it became REAL AND TRUTH to him.  Through this David developed the faith of His Heavenly Father.  David then decreed his Father’s Word to bring the Spiritual Truth into physical manifestation.

There is so much more to teach in this passage:  the five smooth stones.  “Five” is the number of “hesed” or grace.  “Smooth” is symbolic of God’s grace meaning there is nothing rough about it (Luke 3:5).  “Stone” represents Jesus Christ.  This is a teaching for another email.  But, in short, the battle between David and Goliath is a shadow of things to come.  Jesus will battle Satan, once and for all, and overcome him at the cross.  Here’s an amazing Truth.  Jesus was crucified at Golgotha.  Do you know what Golgotha stands for in the Greek?  “The place of the skull.”  The Hebrew word is “Gulgoleth.”  There is speculation Adam’s skull was buried here, but this is not true.  David buried Goliath’s skull at Golgotha.  Jesus Christ, the Seed of David, sacrificed Himself on a cross, raised over the skull of Goliath, representing Satan, and destroyed hell and death.  Praise God!!  David killed Goliath under the Old Covenant, and Jesus crushed Satan under the New Covenant.

One last fun fact.  Look at Genesis 3:15, the first mention of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Scriptures.

Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

This is God speaking to Satan in the Garden of Eden after the fall of Adam.  Properly translated, God says, “It shall crush thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.”  What happened when David launched the one stone at Goliath.  It crushed his skull and embedded in his brain.  This was a prophetic act or a shadow of what was to come when Jesus crushed Satan at the cross and resurrection.

In closing, Jesus instructed us to speak to the giant, or the mountain.  We should have the same faith and fearlessness David did when he attacked Goliath.  The world, Satan, and anything Satan brings against you cannot defeat you.  We are promised this throughout God’s Word.  When we run toward the giants in our lives, we overcome the giants by decreeing God’s Truth in the name of the King of kings and Lord of lords, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Walk Mighty in The Blessing of the Lord,

Larry
