Good Morning Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
We see the term quite often in the Holy Scriptures, “God of Jacob.” This term is an expression of God’s “grace.” If we study the life of Jacob, we see it has a strange beginning, even from the womb as spoken in Genesis 25:26:
Genesis 25:26
And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
Jacob, in Hebrew, means “supplanter.” To “supplant” is “to trip up the heels” in Webster’s 1828 Dictionary. A supplanter is one who “removes or displaces by stratagem; or displaces and takes the place of; overthrows; undermines.”
We can see why Jacob was given the name meaning “supplanter” since he clung to the heel of Esau as if to trip him according to the definition. We can also see it play out as Jacob usurped the blessing meant for Esau as the eldest son. However, it played out as God intended since Esau didn’t value the blessing and sold it to Jacob for a bowl of pottage. We know this blessing is powerful.
In Genesis 35:10, God changed Jacob’s name to “Israel.” Israel, in Hebrew, means “Prince of God.” When God changes a name, He is observing His Word which we understand in Romans 4:17 when He, and we, “call things that be not as though they were.” Jacob was a supplanter, but as Israel He grew into a Prince of God through His name change. Every time someone called Israel by the new name, they were confirming and calling into the earth the change in Jacob’s, now Israel’s, spirit.
What follows are some of the notes from my study of Joseph and Benjamin, the sons of Jacob. Jacob’s twelve sons became the lineage, the patriarchs of the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph and Benjamin are the last two sons of Jacob by his first love, Rachel. God, prophetically, lays out the picture of Grace, which supplants the Law when Jesus enters the New Covenant with God, and what will occur in the last days of the outpouring of His Grace on this earth through the interactions of Joseph and Benjamin in Genesis.
I provide the notes for those of you who are students of God’s Word to delve deeper and receive God’s reward for diligently searching out The Word – The Truth so you can receive the wonderful blessings given to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and discover the hidden treasure God has for you. I pray you’ll receive wonderful and deep revelation from the Truth which will equip you to receive all the blessings of our Father who meant them for you on this earth. Let’s start.
NOTES: Jacob, From Supplanter to Prince of God.
Jacob deserved nothing but received everything – this is grace.
Rachel is the mother of Joseph and Benjamin. Joseph is a type of Jesus Christ. Benjamin’s name means “son of my right hand.” Benjamin is a type of the grace generation – this is us today, the last days.
Rachel’s name means “lamb.” Benjamin was born and his mother, “lamb,” died giving birth. The Grace generation was born out of the death of “The Lamb” on the cross.
Leah’s name means “weary.” Being under the law makes one weary. It is laborious to be under the yoke of the law. Therefore, Jesus said, “Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me….” “Me” is Who? Yes, “Grace.”
Leah, Bilhah, and Zilpah – brought forth 10 sons – number of the Law. They represent a blind woman. Remember Jesus called the Pharisees “blind” to the Truth. The Pharisees, knowledgeable of the Law and The Word of God (Torah), were blind to Grace, prophesized in the very Scriptures they read daily, even when He, Grace, stood before them.
First time Joseph’s brothers met him after throwing him into the pit was during the famine. Joseph looked Egyptian with the clothing, make up, etc. When Jesus came to the Children of Israel, He was unknown to them.
When Joseph is second in all of Egypt, Benjamin is revealed to him during a famine. This is prophetic of an economic famine that will take place in these last days. You can take this to the bank. However, as a Child of God, if you believe and operate in the Kingdom principles and laws, you will be as Benjamin – blessed spiritually and materially when the world is plunging into further darkness and despair. You will become the “light” spoken of by Jesus.
Joseph bound Simeon whose name means “hearing.” He accused them of being spies. Joseph told his brothers to bring the youngest brother Benjamin, then Simeon will be released. The brothers came for “bread’ and received “meat.” The Lord always exceeds our needs. The steward is a picture of Holy Spirit. He is nameless because Jesus gets the glory.
Joseph’s first words to Benjamin were “God be gracious to you, my son.” Genesis 43:29. This represents exactly what Jesus says to us, as Believers, today.
Joseph is representative of Jesus. Benjamin represents the Grace generation. Jesus and the Grace generation have the same Father and mother. The other 10 brothers had the same Father but a different mother, which represents the Law.
Genesis 43:34
– “Benjamin’s serving was five times as much…..”.
– Five is the number of grace. The following are a few examples:
– Fifth time Noah’s name mentioned in Genesis, “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”
– Fifth time Ruth’s name mentioned in Ruth, “in whose sight I may find favor..”
– Fifth time Boaz’s name mentioned in Ruth, “why have I found favor in your eyes..”
– Fifth time David’s name mentioned in I Samuel 16, “ for he has found favor in my sight.”
Genesis 45:22 – Joseph gave Benjamin five times more of everything than he gave to Benjamin’s ten other brothers, who represented the law.
Jesus said not to worry about physical things, the Father will supply them. We are to pursue God’s Word with a voracious appetite. When we do, we learn to use the Spiritual to take care of the physical (Matt 6:33).
Bread is also a picture of healing – five times more. Amen!!
The generation of the last days before the Rapture is the Benjamin Generation. This is us today. God is pouring out His Grace upon this generation to be an extremely bright light in this ever-darkening world before God removes the Church, the Body of Christ, in the Rapture.
Those Believers who have heeded God’s Word and studied and learned, through God’s revelation, how to operate in the Kingdom of God, will receive the five-times more blessing in these last days to fulfill the covenant between Abraham and God in Genesis 12:2-3:
Genesis 12:2-3
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
We’re called to be a blessing and a light to the world, but we must first learn how to be blessed of God. This is understanding the Kingdom of God and how it works. Jesus modeled it throughout the Gospels. We should be operating exactly as Jesus did, performing the same works, and getting the same results – consistently.
I hope the notes will help launch you into a deeper study of Jacob, Joseph, and Benjamin. One thing I can emphatically say to you is if you don’t understand the entire Book of Genesis, “The Beginnings,” you cannot understand the rest of the Scriptures. Everything in the other 65 Books of the Bible is based and linked, inextricably, to Genesis.
Blessings in the Matchless Name of Jesus Christ,
Larry
